Sign up for four weeks of fun engineering activities with a local volunteer!  

Join Dave Thornburg for four weeks of hands-on engineering fun! Dave is a mechanical and electrical engineer with a long career in manufacturing technology, and he’s excited to share his knowledge with you! For four weeks, you will explore engineering, different career options, and do some fun projects to learn more about this broad category of careers! This series will cover the following topics:

Introduction to Engineering – Explore the many engineering careers and learning paths that you can take!

Circuits & Soldering – Get hands on with microcontrollers, breadboards and soldering. Learn to measure voltage and current!

Simple Machines – How do gears, sprockets, pulleys, and levers come into play with engineering? What is pneumatics? 

Engineering Design Process – How do engineers begin a design and proceed forward? Where does Computer Aided Design come in?

Industrial Machines, Makerspace Equipment, and Measuring – Learn about CNC equipment and how it can be used in manufacturing. 

3D Modeling and Personalized Design – Practice 3D modeling and prepare a design for 3D printing or CNC milling.

During this class, you will work with machinery and a variety of tools. Closed toe shoes are required. Avoid wearing baggy clothing or dangling jewelry, and tie back long hair.
