Qualify for free online tax preparation for those with income must be below $66,000.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program

Tax-Aide sites offer free and individualized tax preparation for low-to moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 50 and older. They will be open February 1 through April 15, 2020. To find a location near you, visit the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Site Locator and enter your zip code to start your search. 

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

In La Porte, people may call the Salvation Army at 219-326-5342, ext. 2016, to ask when they might be able to come in.  They may leave a message if no one answers.  Their hours vary by day and change once in a while, so people should call.  They are available some mornings from 9:00am-12:00pm and some afternoons from 1:00pm-3:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm. They're starting this on Monday, February 3 and this assistance will go through April 15.  VITA is giving the assistance

Contact the Assessor’s Office, find forms for review of assessment or corrections of errors, and file appeals to property assessments.
