The La Porte County Public Library is thrilled to present An Evening with Shelby Van Pelt, author of Remarkably Bright Creatures.

This debut novel became an instant New York Times bestseller and The Today Show’s Read with Jenna Book Club pick.

Join us in person at The Great Hall Events & Conference Center at Purdue University Northwest, located at 1401 S. U.S. 421, Westville, IN 46391. This event is free and open to the public.

Shelby will share insights into her writing process, the characters, themes of loss and hope, and the giant Pacific octopus, followed by a book signing. Doors will open at 5:00pm, with light desserts and a cash bar available (no cards).

Remarkably Bright Creatures was published by Ecco/HarperCollins (US) and Bloomsbury (UK) in spring 2022. For fans of A Man Called Ove, a luminous debut novel about a widow’s unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus reluctantly residing at the local aquarium—and the truths she finally uncovers about her son’s disappearance 30 years ago.

Bring your copy of the book or purchase one at the event. We are collaborating with The Press, a local independent bookstore in Valparaiso, to provide books for sale during the event.

Please note registration is limited to 400 seats.
