Technology is ever-changing and can be overwhelming to understand at times. Luckily, Digital Navigators at LPCPL are well-equipped with knowledge and the skillsets necessary to help you answer all of your tech questions!
Digital Navigators are members of Library staff located at all branch locations and ready to work with you to assist you in meeting your goals and brush up on your technology skills.
If you’re in need of advanced technology help or a one-on-one session, it is best to schedule an appointment with one of our Technology Team Leads!
Walk-ins during open Library hours are accepted, but one-on-one appointments provide a more thorough experience.
“That way [when appointments are set], we can research the issue at hand and more easily guide our patrons through the problem without need to make them wait for us to research solutions,” said Mitchell Espinosa, Technology Team Lead at Main.
One-on-one appointments also ensure that you that the proper amount of time is allotted for all of your questions to be answered thoroughly.
Email (how to tell if an email is spam, how to send an email, etc.) and help with printing are two of the most popular services Digital Navigators assist patrons with. However, Digital Navigators can help with anything from applying for jobs online to device help (guidance, set-up, questions), setting up an online account for bills to navigating the web, and even some basics of Photoshop!
To schedule an appointment, visit laportelibrary.org/digital-navigators, call 219-362-6156 ext. 102, or email help@laportelibrary.org.
If you are interested in learning more technology tips and tricks, check out the calendar of events for Tech Help Tables and other special classes. If you’re interested in a particular class but are unable to attend, give us a call to schedule an appointment.
Upon request, Tech Team Leads are available to travel to your library branch to provide help for easier accessibility.
Thanks to the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte and Friends of the La Porte County Public Library, LPCPL also offers hotspots and TechPacks, which include everything you need to access the internet from home.
Each TechPack includes a Chromebook, Wi-Fi hotspot, mouse, and instructions to get you started. Digital Navigators will work with you to identify your technology goals before loaning you a TechPack.
After meeting with a Digital Navigator, TechPacks can be borrowed for up to three months. Kits that do not easily fit in outdoor return bins must be returned inside at a customer service desk. Only one TechPack can be checked out on a customer’s account. TechPacks are available at all branches.
A hotspot connects one or more Wi-Fi-enabled devices, like computers, smartphones, and tablets, to mobile broadband Internet service and can be borrowed for one month. Hotspots also come with instructions and a micro-USB charging cord.
Youth under the age of 18 must have a signed Internet Permission Form on file to borrow a hotspot.
All use of Library technology must comply with LPCPL’s Computer Use Policy.
