How old do I need to be to volunteer?
Anyone 12 years of age and older can apply to become a La Porte County Public Library volunteer.
What do I need to volunteer?
A willingness to share your time and skills with the Library. In addition, if you are between the ages of 12 and 17, you will need parent or guardian
permission to volunteer. If you are 18 years of age or older, you must successfully pass a background check.
What is the volunteer time commitment?
We will work with you to set a schedule that works for you and the Library. You may have an amount of time that is set or you might like to volunteer on an ongoing basis over a period of time. Evening and weekend hours are available.
What if I need to complete court-ordered community service?
Anyone needing to complete court-ordered community service should contact our Human Resources Department directly by calling 219-362-6156.
Can my organization volunteer as a group?
Yes! If you are part of an organization, such as Scouts or 4-H, we ask that the Group Leader completes the volunteer application and is the contact for club volunteer assignments.
How do I get started?
Potential volunteers express their interest by clicking Get Started Today on the Volunteer page on the website and completing the Volunteer Interest Form. A member of our staff will contact you for a short interview and to ask any questions you may have about volunteering at the Library.
Who can I contact for additional information?
