Does your child LOVE animals?! Are they fascinated with the creepy-crawly? Or do they marvel at the huge elephants and fast cheetahs? Going to the zoo right now might be out of the question, but you can bring the zoo home with these unique virtual experiences!

  1. The Cincinnati Zoo offers “Home Safaris” via Facebook Live and YouTube. You can learn more about many of the exciting animals that the zoo houses, including red pandas, aardvarks, and giraffes! The sessions also include an activity that you can do at home. The Facebook Live sessions occur at 2:00pm each day. Afterward, the videos will be shared to YouTube.

  1. The San Diego Zoo has live cameras in several of their animal enclosures! Families can see koalas, polar bears, butterflies, tigers, and more! Along with the live cams, the San Diego Zoo also offers pre-recorded videos, crafts, and other educational opportunities!

  1. The Nature Museum in Chicago provides many learning opportunities for different animals! The website offers a sampling of activities and you must subscribe to their newsletter in order to receive additional activities. So, if you want to learn how butterflies eat, how to tell the difference between a frog and a toad, or how animals survive in the winter, head on over to the Nature Museum’s website!

Megan, Community Engagement Librarian, Unicorn Fanatic, The Most Sparkly Librarian – any of these titles will do. When not bringing the Van Halen to early literacy classes or spreading the joy of reading to youngsters throughout the community, one can find her enjoying copious amounts of carbohydrates, binge-watching random television shows and movies, pretending to be a professional photographer, dancing around and singing when no one is watching (okay, maybe when people are watching, too), and thoroughly enjoying life with a never-ending smile!
