It’s that time of year again for families with school-aged children. No matter what the school year looks like for your family, the Library is always here to support the education of our community by providing high-quality access to award-winning databases and apps that help children of all ages achieve their academic success.

Below are the services and resources available to families. You can also visit the website for up-to-date events and activities.

THE EXCHANGE-The Exchange is now open at 807 Indiana Avenue and offers the opportunity to collaborate with others, learn a new skill, and explore a hobby. Once certified, teens 15+ can use the space on their own and 8-14 can use the space with a Certified Maker parent or guardian.

MAKER CARTS-These carts give people of all ages the opportunity to get together and informally learn STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) related technologies through hands-on experience. They are available at all library locations, with the exception of The Exchange, during open business hours.

LIBRARIES 360– All students in five school districts throughout the county should have a Libraries 360 card. The purpose is to give students access to additional resources, both in school and at home. The card gives them access to materials at the Library and tools online. Visit Libraries360.org for more information.

WIFI INTERNET ACCESS– All LPCPL locations have free WiFi that can be accessed from outside the buildings. Enjoy the outdoor seating at all locations while using the WiFi. The Indiana Library Federation and the State of Indiana have also created maps showing free WiFi access throughout the state.

LIBBY– Libby offers a wide range of eBooks and eAudiobooks in all genres. With added TEEN titles, access to great reads for youth and teens is at their fingertips.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKFLIX – Scholastic BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration.

SCHOLASTIC SCIENCEFLIX® – Emphasizing the latest STEM thinking and the Next Generation Science Standards, ScienceFlix® is transforming the way students access science topics, acquire scientific knowledge, and build an abiding interest in science, technology, and engineering.

EDUCATION AND HOMEWORK HELP – Get tutoring help, find resources for test preparation including the driver’s test, student research help for different age groups, and tools for educators too.

INSPIRE – A service of the Indiana State Library, this resource is Indiana’s Virtual Library. It offers access to over 40 databases covering subjects like biographies, magazine and scholarly journal articles, newspapers articles, health and medicine, careers, military, and so much more. Homework content and testing help is at your fingertips.

CURBSIDE PICKUP – LPCPL’s curbside services bring the library to you — in your vehicle! Perfect for when you’re on the go, you can reserve a time slot that fits in your schedule. Curbside is available at all locations.

RESERVE YOUR VISIT – La Porte County Public Library (LPCPL) provides access to meeting and study room facilities and services in support of its mission to be the center of community life. Room capacity varies according to location. Please note that room capacity has been reduced to allow for proper social distancing. Cleaning of the rooms will occur in between bookings.
