Online Storytimes Continue Through June

We’re ready for summer storytimes, are you? Get your littles ready for school and ready to read, write, sing, talk, and play with our librarians. However, to help stop the spread of COVID-19 we are continuing to hold Play & Learn and Stories & More online through the month of June.

Early literacy is the pre-reading and writing skills that children need to know before they can learn to read and write. Children who develop early literacy skills are ready to learn these essential skills by the time they start kindergarten.

The La Porte County Public Library provides specific services and resources to children from birth until they are ready to learn to read and write. We use a program called Every Child Ready to Read to teach parents how to teach their littles about reading and writing from a young age. Because parents are a child’s first teacher, librarians develop classes, spaces and collect materials that support the crucial role that parents play in their child’s development.

Play & Learn is for babies 0-24 months and their favorite grown-up! It will be held every Thursday at 10:00 am online. Babies and adults talk, sing, read, write and play together as we share books, songs, rhymes, and movement.

We will introduce stories, songs, movement, and more in this fun online program designed to get them ready for Kindergarten. At the end of each class, we will provide a link to a craft or activity that you and your child can do together!
