Celebrating National Friends of the Library Week

Who are the Friends of the Library?

The Friends of the Library (FOTL) are community members who advocate for the library. They help by sharing their time and talents to organize fundraisers that support the programs, classes and initiatives of the Library. Without the sustained financial support from the Friends, the library would not be able to provide our community with the high-quality events and classes. They are a 501c(3) non-profit organization. We would like to give them special recognition for all they do during National Friends of the Library Week, October 17-23.

What are examples of what they do?

We are very fortunate to have an active and creative bunch that are always thinking of new and innovative ways to support the library. They encourage donations, gifts, endowments, and memorials to the Friends organization. They have found several ways to help support the Library over the years, from book sales to trivia nights. As times change, so do their initiatives.

Last year the FOTL participated in GivingTuesday for the very first time in an initiative to raise money for the Library’s Summer Reading Program. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 1, 2020, and throughout the year. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon!

In addition, the FOTL has written grants for the Library for specific equipment, such as our Virtual Reality headsets. They participate in several giveback days at local establishments. Whatever the initiative, their time and effort is imperative to the success of many of our programs and events. We are very grateful for everything they contribute to the Library.

How can I get updates?

The FOTL have a page on the Library website. You can contact them directly through the page. It also includes information on signing up for Amazon Smile and Kroger Rewards which will donate a portion of purchases to FOTL. Also, watch the Library’s social media and website for upcoming events and giveback nights!
