It’s here and we’re excited to share it with you. That’s right!, the La Porte County Public Library’s Mobile STEAM Classroom has traveled here all the way from Colorado and is preparing to go into service.

This mobile classroom will provide students across school systems in La Porte County with cutting-edge, rigorous, and relevant hands-on lessons that prepare them for a wide range of high-skill, high-demand careers. Students will have equitable access to the mobile classroom and receive a high-quality experience. The mobile classroom is funded by donations made through the Unity Foundation of La Porte County and grant funds from the Arconic Foundation.

The technology on the classroom was specifically chosen to expose students to the types of equipment used right there in La Porte County manufacturing facilities. Students can gain insight into the career opportunities that exist locally and regionally which can help them choose career paths that lead to high demand jobs in our local and state economy.

La Porte County Public Library is uniquely situated to develop and implement this service as an extension of the Libraries 360 initiative to local school corporations. L360 services include library cards for 1,271 teachers and 15,685 students which allows for the delivery of library materials directly to the schools for the benefit of teachers and students. The library’s seven physical locations are incorporated into school technology plans as part of out of school student access to Wi-Fi. The library also partners with schools to provide student lessons in science and social studies.
