Since we learned of OverDrive’s acquisition of Kanopy in early June 2021, we have been wondering if and how Kanopy would work with the Libby app.  We now know that OverDrive is planning to make Kanopy available in the Libby app starting the week of December 6, 2021.

Kanopy will appear in the Extras section of the Libby app alongside our library’s own curated collections, campaigns, and catalog guides.  The Kanopy app and all the ways to browse, stream, and enjoy videos from Kanopy will remain unchanged.  Access via Libby is simply another way for library customers to discover the service.

When a user selects Kanopy in Libby, they’ll be shown a screen to learn more and get started. Users who already have the Kanopy app installed on their device will be prompted to open it.

Existing Kanopy users will sign into Kanopy with the same login credentials they use today. New users who discover Kanopy through Libby will be prompted to create an account with Kanopy.

Once on the Kanopy platform, users have a monthly allotment of play credits, which is currently capped at ten.

Happy streaming!

He has spent much of his adult work life swimming in seas of metadata, bench-pressing card catalogs, and bartering with information system vendors, but those activities have done more to tone his head muscle and less to develop those desirable six-pack abs. These cataloging skills have taken him through Illinois, Wisconsin, and back home to Indiana (queue the Soggy Bottom Boys: “the place where he was born and bred”). In his spare time, he attempts to stay out of family arguments, binge watches British comedy, drama, and mystery programs, and subjects his two cats to the latest in Indie/Alternative music.
