Learning to read is a huge milestone in your child’s life. As K-3 students transition from prereaders to beginning readers they experience so much pride in their increased skill. They really begin to self-direct their learning and pick books that reflect their unique personalities and interests – “Where are the dinosaur books?” “I just read the best joke book!” “Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus!”

Sometimes parents and caregivers can feel overwhelmed when helping their beginning readers select books that match their interests and reading level. We can help! You can search our catalog for print books (tip: click on reading levels) or download eBooks without ever leaving home. And, you can always call or stop in any library location and a librarian will be happy to provide recommendations based on your child’s interests. You can also sign up for a customized weekly eNewsletter to find out about the newest books we’ve added at the library.

Here are links to some of our most popular beginning reader books:

Elephant and Piggie Series by Mo Willems

Mercy Watson by Kate DiCamillo

I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes

Dog Man Series by Dav Pilkey (Cat Kid Comic Club coming out in December!)
