Did you get distracted from filing your taxes due to COID-19? If so, don’t panic, there is still plenty of time to file. The due date was extended to July 15.

Forms are available at the library. Our printers, copiers, and fax machine are now available for use as well.

If you need help filing your taxes, you may be eligible for assistance through VITA. Call 2-1-1 for more information. You can also call the La Porte Salvation Army at 219-326-5342 extension 2025 to make an appointment.

  • IRS certified volunteers will prepare your taxes at no cost or you can visit to prepare your taxes yourself for free.
  • IRS-certified tax preparers will prepare and e-file your income taxes for free for you if you: 1) Have an adjusted gross income of $66,000 or less (per household) and 2) Your return does NOT include rental income, farm income, adoption credits, or income from other states.
  • If you worked in 2019, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit – even if you don’t owe income tax! Filing electronically guarantees a quick refund (typically 7-14 days).
