Meet the LPCPL team

Fonda Owens

Director

Fonda Owens is the Director at La Porte County Public Library. A native of Virginia, she has made her home in Indiana along with her family. Growing up in rural Appalachia, she brings a thirst for knowledge, discovery, and opportunity to her work and strives to inspire it in others. Baking and kayaking are her current interests but she could find something new and fascinating at any minute.

Jennifer Bissonnette

Communications Manager

Jennifer enjoys reading, writing to-do lists, and giving both of her dogs belly rubs. She has a weak spot for tasty sweets and is on a mission to find Northwest Indiana’s best cinnamon roll. She often over analyzes things but tries to use that to her advantage in her work at the library.

Toni Kester Bulger

Public Service Manager

Toni is the Public Services Manager. She has worked as a customer service team member and outreach librarian at LPCPL. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and wearing navy blue. Even though she works at a library, she doesn’t read as much as you might think.

Cindy Lane

Administrative Services Manager

Cindy has been with the Library for 35 years hiring in as a bookmobile driver in 1983. She later transferred to Administrative Services and currently serves as the Administrative Services Manager for Finance and HR. Cindy serves on the board of Lakeshore SHRM, La Porte County’s local Human Resources Chapter, and is a member of her church worship team. She enjoys outdoor activities  including fishing, canoeing and camping, 4 wheel trail riding, and spending time running her beagle, Miss Bella.

Pam Okosun

Community Learning Manager

Pam is a Community Learning Manager. She teaches library classes, plans programs, helps customers learn new technologies, and loves to discover what people are curious about. Outside the library, you might find her crocheting, playing the piano, or flying with her pilot husband.

Michael Sheehan

Cataloging and Materials Services Manager

Michael joined the library staff in August of 2017. He is a member of the Library Admin Team. He has spent much of his adult work life swimming in seas of metadata, bench-pressing card catalogs, and bartering with information system vendors, but those activities have done more to tone his head muscle and less to develop those desirable six-pack abs. These cataloging skills have taken him through Illinois, Wisconsin, and back home to Indiana (queue the Soggy Bottom Boys: “the place where he was born and bred”). In his spare time, he attempts to stay out of family arguments, binge watches British comedy, drama, and mystery programs, and subjects his two cats to the latest in Indie/Alternative music.

Elizabeth Adams

Community Learning Librarian

Elizabeth has a professional background in community engagement and public health research and is a big believer in the healing power of the arts. Personally, she enjoys a wide variety of hobbies including sewing, leather-working, woodworking, stained glass and glass bead making, jewelry making, and other fiber arts like embroidery, cross stitch, crochet, and weaving. She is excited to bring this mix of skills to The Exchange and be a part of the creative community in LaPorte.

Daphne Bechrakis

Public Services Librarian

Daphne is a Public Services Librarian and Harry Potter enthusiast. In her free time, she enjoys reading, adding books to her ever-growing “to-be-read” list, hiking, and watching terrible movies with friends. One of her current life goals is to collect the entirety of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Her bucket list includes seeing the Aurora Borealis and going to Yellowstone National Park. She is the proud owner of a spider-plant named Skullcrusher III, first of its kind, which she has somehow managed not to kill yet.

Riese Bornell

Public Services Librarian

Riese is a Public Services Librarian. Her undergraduate degree from Indiana University South Bend is in Vocal Performance, and she loves all kinds of music from Alternative music to Showtunes. (Just not Country. Please, no Country). You can almost always find her watching anime or horror movies, reading, or talking about some kind of history topic. She is a proud cat and plant parent. If you want to use ‘they’ to refer to Riese, that’s cool too. They’ll respond to both.

De Burke

Human Resource Professional

De is a Human Resource Professional. She is a member of LPCPL’s Management Team. She enjoys helping her co-workers to be successful. She has a strong love for 90’s hip-hop music. De is a huge fan of good coffee and enjoys reading motivational non-fiction self-help books.

Danny Barnes

Communications & Marketing Professional

Danny is a father, husband, and avid fisherman that also loves technology. Podcaster since 2013. When he’s not outside, he’s typically playing video games or working on web development projects and building computers. He loves to read Historical Fiction and Science Fiction. His favorite book is The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell.

Mary Hedge

Public Services Librarian

Mary is a Public Services Librarian. She enjoys helping people find the information they need, including family and local history searches. Also, she serves as the director of READ La Porte County, Inc., plays the organ for a church, and enjoys traveling.

Dan Hunter

Head of Buildings and Grounds

Dan is the Head of Buildings and Grounds. He likes camping, fishing, off-roading, and living the life of an enchanted princess. Dan is not a doctor, but he does enjoy reality medical television and offering medical advice. In his free time, Dan buys, rehabs, and sells used cars.

Laurin Katzmarek

Public Services Librarian

Laurin is a Public Services Librarian and Oxford Comma enthusiast. She strives to provide excellent customer service to those who visit the library and will promote libraries/archives and their resources to anyone who will listen. Laurin enjoys hiking in the Dunes, combing the lakeshore for beach glass and crinoids, DIY crafting, and playing D&D (druids and monks are her favorite classes). If she were not a librarian, Laurin would own a bubble tea shop or be a professional organizer. Her bucket list includes visiting every Disney theme park around the world and touring Hobbiton in New Zealand.

Aimee Meier

User Experience/Training

Aimee is our UX and Trainer, but not the type that makes you skinny or buff. She has been a trainer for nearly 15 years, with a focus in technology. She is also a coffee-drinker, audiobook addict, mom, and cat collector. Much of her spare time is spent in a gym watching volleyball. She escapes to a beach or pool whenever she can. She is also a soup making champion as she has won the library’s soup-off competition two years in a row!

Stacy Moore

Purchasing Agent

Stacy spends her time at work setting up bill payments and shopping online. She enjoys finding the best deals around to bring the coolest products into the hands of the great people of La Porte County. When not at work, Stacy enjoys spending time with her 7 kids, 5 grandkids, wonderful husband and her crazy Pit Bull, Dory. She loves Harleys, power tools and remodeling her home. She secretly thinks her husband takes her on the motorcycle to prevent her from starting more home projects.

Julie Pitman

Community Learning Librarian

Julie is a former illustrator, graphic designer, naturalist, and art teacher.  Current wife, mom, gardener, procrastinator, and tinkerer. Future Jeopardy! Champion and electric car owner. Among the Lego creations, crossword puzzle books, and abandoned origami projects, in her home is a ‘shrine’ dedicated to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. books and memorabilia.

Megan Roseberry

Public Services Librarian

Megan, Public Services Librarian, Quokka Fanatic, The Most Sparkly Librarian – any of these titles will do. When not bringing the Van Halen to early literacy classes or spreading the joy of reading to youngsters throughout the community, one can find her enjoying copious amounts of carbohydrates, binge-watching random television shows and movies, pretending to be a professional photographer, dancing around and singing when no one is watching (okay, maybe when people are watching, too), and thoroughly enjoying life with a never-ending smile!

Ann Shaffer

Accounting Professional

Ann is the Accounting Professional working with the Administrative Services Team. She is driven to be a good steward of the tax payers money. Many a tale has been spoken of her victories over complex vendor issues.

Holly Trott

Collection Management Librarian

Holly is the Collection Management Librarian at LPCPL and contributes to the library’s Social Media presence. She enjoys reading everything from Science Fiction and Fantasy to Historical Nonfiction. When she’s not reading, she also enjoys kayaking, video games, eating pizza, and following politics.

Julie Wadle

Public Services Assistant Manager

Julie is one of the Public Services Librarians. She enjoys building community partnerships and helping others learn new things. When she is not on the sidelines cheering on her family, she enjoys being outside, baking and reading the latest James Patterson.

Kerstin Vossberg

Community Learning Librarian

Kerstin is a part of the Community Learning Team for the Makerspace at the LPCPL Exchange Building. She is a graduate of the Purdue University School of Engineering and enjoys all things STEAM. She likes to spend her time with her dog Taki.

Kaitlin Weiss

Community Learning Librarian

Kaitlin (Kaiti) worked as a K-5 Media Specialist at two elementary schools in Hammond for 13 years before she became a member of the Community Learning Team. She enjoys storytimes with the babies, going out into the classroom to teach lessons, and creating fun programs for the community. When not reading a book you can find her spending time with her two nephews, family, and friends, traveling to new places, crafting, and binge watching TV shows.

Jeanene Wolf

Cataloger

Jeanene is the Cataloger in Cataloging and Materials Services at La Porte County Public Library. Since beginning work at the library in 2016, she has been a customer service specialist in circulation, a materials processor in Cataloging and Materials Services, and is super excited to now be cataloging. In her previous lives, she has been an after-school teacher, a high school English teacher, and an elementary librarian. In her free time (ha, ha! what’s that?!), she likes to read mysteries, watch sci-fi shows on Netflix, and plan her next trip – a Star Trek cruise, perhaps.
