Did you unwrap some new technology over the holidays, but you’re not sure how to use it? No fear, the library is here! Let the La Porte County Public Library help you discover the joy technology can bring. We are offering classes at many of our locations during the month of January. Attend one or more of our sessions to get the most out of your new device! The specific focus for the sessions will be to get you acquainted with our eResources: OverDrive and Tumblebooks for your eBooks and eAudiobooks, and Flipster for your eMagazines.

The library offers a wide selection of eBooks and eAudiobooks through OverDrive. It will turn your smartphone or device into a book you can read anywhere or an audiobook to take with you in the car or your morning walk. We can help you get set up on a new account or make the most of the app. You can use OverDrive on an Apple and Android device, Kindle and Kindle Fire, Nook, MP3 players, and computers to get your favorite reading material. For those of you that also like to browse through periodicals to find new recipes, get decorating tips, or stay connected to the world around you, we can introduce you to Flipster. Flipster is an app for your device that will allow to check out eMagazines and read right from your device. The content is the same that you would find in the actual physical copy of the magazine. Tumblebooks is an online resource that is focused on children, from preschool to high school aged. It is actually 3 separate age-specific eBook collections. Tumblebooks Library is designed for young children ages PreK through Grade 2, Tumblebook Cloud Jr. is designed for grades 2-6, and Tumblebook Cloud is designed for students in middle and high school. Tumblebooks Library contains animated, talking picture books with fiction, nonfiction and foreign language titles, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), eBooks and audiobooks which may be viewed online, and Tumble Puzzles & Games. If you are traveling and have limited space, load up your device with your favorite materials and be on your way. When you are unable to make it to the library, the materials are available for you to check out at any time. This is a convenience at its finest.
