26 Jun The Revolution of Robert Kennedy
This summer has been full of fun surprises at the library. Last week I met Brenda (Wade) Guernsey and her sister who were visiting La Porte. Besides visiting friends and seeing the brick added to the Veteran’s Walk in honor of their father, they stopped to see the newly renovated Main Library.
While here, Brenda showed me the picture below of Bobby Kennedy and his wife on the campaign trail during a visit to La Porte. They were trying to determine which building on Lincolnway matched with the steeple in the rear-view mirror with the Kennedys.
This picture, taken by the talented photograph Burt Glinn, makes an appearance in a new book entitled The Revolution of Robert Kennedy: From Power to Protest After JFK by John R. Bohrer! It was also featured prominently on page C7 of the Wall Street Journal on June 10-11, 2017.
Our local La Porte County Historian, Fern Eddy Schultz, wrote about this famous sighting (and many others). Read more here: https://goo.gl/Z85buh
The Revolution of Robert Kennedy has recently been added to our library collection. If you are interested in this book, click HERE and place a hold.
P.S. Brenda sent me a follow-up email. The mystery building in the background of the Kennedys was the old La Porte Theater found on an old postcard.
