07 Jun Love Mystery Series?
I was looking for a new mystery series to listen to and decided to try Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series a couple of months ago. Still Life is the first in the series. We have the entire series in our digital audiobook collection. I am loving this series for several reasons. One, it’s set in Canada near the Vermont border and revolves around CI Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec. I am not familiar with Canada and enjoy learning bits about the culture. Two, I like the characters. I want them for my friends and neighbors. I appreciate that Gamache is not a bitter, alcoholic detective or a good-looking womanizer. Three, I love the narrator for the first ten books in the series. He had a delightful British accent along with authentic pronunciation of French terms. He died suddenly a couple of years ago, unfortunately. The other narrators do a good job on the remaining books in the series. Four, the mysteries are pretty intricate and psychological, so there’s lots to think about. The 13th book in the series, Glass Houses, comes out in August.
