13 Feb Make Your Child’s Words Ornate, Elegant, And Resplendent With The Fancy Nancy Series!
Does your child use words like posh, fuchsia, and plume correctly? These are just a few of the fabulous words that author Jane O’Connor uses in her series, Fancy Nancy. One of the many reasons why the Fancy Nancy Series is so incredible is that these books familiarize children with words that are likely outside of the norm for them. O’Connnor writes in such a way as to make the meaning of these “fancy” words easily accessible. She immediately relates the more uncommon word to another word children are more likely to know. This helps children immediately understand the meaning of the new word.
According to this article from the K5 Learning Blog, “vocabulary is important across the curriculum from language arts and social studies to mathematics and science. It is intimately connected to both effective reading and writing skills, and these skills in turn are necessary for doing well in school.”
How do you increase your child’s vocabulary? Reading is an excellent way to introduce children to words they may have never heard or seen before. The more books your child can read, the more words he or she will encounter. The Fancy Nancy series includes early readers, pictures books, and chapter books (known as Nancy Clancy) spanning a wide range of reading levels.
