Make a Difference: Chew Toys

21 Feb Make a Difference: Chew Toys

La Porte County Public Library received a grant from the Young Adult Library Services Association and Dollar General to fund a series of projects led by La Porte teens. This series is called “Make a Difference”. Throughout 2018, teens will be invited to help make a difference for others in La Porte County by using the equipment in Spark Labs.

The first project was completed on Tuesday, February 13th. Teens gathered at the Main Library to make chew toy ropes for animals waiting to be adopted. Over 50 rope toys will be donated to local shelters with the hope of making a difference in the lives of La Porte’s furriest friends. The toys were created with donated t-shirts, which were cut into strips, then braided together to form a strong rope.

The next project is the “Lend a Hand” challenge. All ages are invited to help 3D print and assemble 20 prosthetic hands. This challenge will begin on March 1st and culminate on Tuesday, April 17 when the hands will be assembled.
