What Is LPCPL Labs?

LPCPL Labs is an opportunity for people of all ages get together and informally learn STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art,  and math) related technologies through hands on experience, by sharing tools, knowledge and local expertise.

A dedicated space at the Main Library provides opportunities to use equipment, collaborate, and learn new skills. Mobile LPCPL Labs brings technology education to our branch locations, schools, and community events.

Official Makers can use the Lab when the space is not already in use for a class or event. LPCPL Labs closes 30 minutes before the Main Library. Some equipment may not be available due to classes at other locations. Additional information about classes can be found on the Library’s calendar of events.

Who can use the equipment during Open Lab?

You must be 13 or older with a library account or valid picture ID to use the equipment in LPCPL Labs. Children under the age of 13 can use the equipment if they are accompanied by an adult.

Before participating in open labs hours, you must take the LPCPL Labs Official Maker course and pass a quiz. When Makers visit Open Lab for the first time, they will meet with a staff person, review the LPCPL Labs Policy, and sign a waiver. Minors must have a parent present the first time they visit to sign their waiver.

Will LPCPL Labs come to my classroom?

Yes! LPCPL Labs has a mobile component. We would be glad to work with you to see how we can help your students experience the excitement that Spark Labs has to offer. Check out the classes we offer through Libraries 360.

How can I get involved with LPCPL Labs?

You can join the innovation at the LPCPL Labs makerspace, attend one of the many classes offered at our locations, or you can become a volunteer.

How is LPCPL Labs funded?

LPCPL Labs is funded by grants, the Friends of the Library, gift funds, and corporate sponsors. If you are interested in supporting LPCPL Labs, please contact us at 219-362-6156 or email help@laportelibrary.org.
