Local Lore: Veteran’s Project

06 May Local Lore: Veteran’s Project

Local history is an important part of our community. The La Porte County Public Library values the experiences of those in our community, which prompted us to create the “Local Lore: Veterans” project. This pilot project was launched in early 2019 to see how a local oral history collection could be created and made available to all of La Porte County through our website. In February, two Michigan City JROTC cadets met with four local veterans to ask them about their experiences in the military. The interviews were recorded, edited for clarity, and posted to our website. The interviews can now be found in our Local Collections

The veterans interviewed were Lewis Juday: World War II, Glenn Larson: Korean War, Rich Mrozinski: Vietnam War, and Billy Warner: Desert Storm. The cadets who conducted the interviews were Declan Rice and Dontrell Maitland. We would like to sincerely thank these participants for sharing their stories with our community.

If you’d like to watch the ‘premiere’ with other veterans, stop over for a free coffee hour at Haverstock Funeral Home on May 8.
